What you want to know...
Arrival
It is incredibly important for your students to be on-time and ready to learn. Brown serves FREE breakfast beginning at 8:30. Once the students are done they are to head outside to the playground and wait until the bell at 8:55. At 8:55 all students will line up with their teachers. Our class lines up on the blacktop in the northwest corner by the large rocks. Due to safety policies, we ask that you hug and say goodbyes outside. We will be entering the school and classroom without parents.
Dismissal
Our learning together ends at 3:45pm. If your child is in after-school care with Kaleidoscope or in an after-school club, they are dismissed down the hallway and walk to their meeting places. The rest of the students and I will exit the building out the same playground doors in the northwest corner. Students will wait with me until we see their pick-up person and I dismiss them. It is my top priority to get every child home safely, so please be patient as I dismiss each student one at a time. Unless absolutely necessary we ask that your child not leave early, we will be engaged in learning up until the bell rings.
School supplies
Thank you so much for supplying your child and our classroom with the tools we need to learn this year. If you are able, please make sure all supplies is dropped of at the school by Tuesday, August 26th. We will be using most of them right away. If you are unable to provide school supplies for your child, please let me know.
Classroom Snack
It’s hard to learn when you are hungry or sluggish, so we will be having a daily classroom snack to keep us healthy and energized. In first grade we do community snack. One family will be responsible for bringing in snack for the whole class once a month. You can always opt out of the classroom snack schedule.
Keeping Hydrated and Cool
Students are encouraged to bring in a water bottle to keep at their desk. Please make sure the water bottle is filled with only water and has a sealed top. I will do my best to keep our classroom cool and comfortable during the warm months. Please dress your child in comfortable, light clothes on hot days.
Specials:
The specials rotation this year include Art, Music/Library, PE/Dance, and Spanish/Technology – on a three week rotating schedule.
Behavior
We encourage students to show the learner profile and IB attitudes. We will use a clip chart to make them aware and responsible for their choices in school. Please have a discussion about your child’s color/choices each day.
